Percival holds his nerve to win a thriller

BOWLS:
MALCOLM Percival (Dunwood) won the Chadderton League’s President’s Handicap with a nailbiting 21-20 final victory over Charlie Roberts (Waterloo and Taunton) at Moorside.
In the semi-finals, Percival overcame Phil Taylor (West End) 21-16, while Roberts defeated Peter Saville (Springbank) 21-11.
GARY Ellis continued his winning streak with yet another big-competition triumph.
The Tonge star landed the top prize of £1,200 in the Complete Packaging Services Classic at Hill Crest BC, Sowerby Bridge, with a 31-17 dismissal of Shrewsbury’s Richie Goddard in the final.
Steve Copeland (Springbank) and Darren Griffiths (Nimble Nook and Tonge) were both beaten in the quarter-finals.
PAUL Leah (Waterloo and Taunton) reached the semi-finals of the Metro Sports Classic in Stretford only to suffer 21-20 heartbreak against Chris Barton (Wirral).
The £700 top prize went to Dave Phillips (Manchester), who won the final 21-15.
