A BRIEF glimpse of sunshine greeted competitors in this year’s Royton Trail Multi-Terrain Race.
A strong contingent of 50 Royton Road Runners lined up for the race, which had 182 finishers.
Ian McBride was strongly fancied to become a first home winner, given his excellent form this year, and he duly delivered. He crossed the line in 30 minutes five seconds, more than a minute ahead of second-placed Mick Flatley (Middleton Harriers) and Paul Simons (Salford Harriers).
This result — it was his ninth win of 2012 — ensured McBride retained his Royton Road Runners Club Championship title.
Alongside Martin Schofield (sixth in 33:14) and the ever-improving Russell Ingham (13th in 34:59), he led Royton Road Runners to a first victory in the men’s team race, from Middleton Harriers. Stuart Carroll and Chris Lowe were 10th and 15th respectively.
