AUSTERLANDS didn’t allow themselves to stew too long after being smashed for 291 runs in 20 overs by rampant Heyside.
Only 24 hours later, Adam Young’s men skittled top-five chasers Stayley for 82 — before reaching their target with four wickets in hand.
It was a much-needed win for the Nursery Fields outfit. The win went a long way towards laying the previous evening’s ghost, and was their first victory since May 6 — and only second in the league this season.
Young said: “It was a great response. When five wickets went down I thought here we go again, but we managed to pull through. We couldn’t beat ourselves up about events at Heyside. It was one of those things that happens now and again. I just told the lads to forget about it and move on.”
Austerlands remain second from bottom, but last Saturday’s performance has provided Young with hope that better times lie ahead: “Our fielding was brilliant, which gave us that extra bit of confidence.’
Seamer Andrew Cadd was sidelined for the game because of injury, but should be back in the next couple of weeks. But Austerlands must do without pro Humayun Farhat for the remainder of the season as he is in Pakistan to be with his sick father.
GLODWICK won the toss to host this season’s Tanner Cup final against Heyside on August 5 — but the showdown looks likely to be moved to another venue.
The consumption of alcohol is not allowed on their Warren Street ground, while there are also concerns about drainage after recent substantial rain.
Moorside CC are favourites to step in. Turf Pit Lane was used for Glodwick’s last-four win over Friarmere.
MOORSIDE welcome Uppermill to Turf Pit Lane on Sunday in a rearranged Twenty20 Cup quarter-final tie (2pm). Heyside booked their ticket for finals day with victory over Austerlands last Friday.
