FORMER England captain Michael Vaughan and several of his team-mates in the national team will play in a special match at Royton CC next month.
A Royton first X1 – for the occasion known as the NatWest Locals – will take on the Legends as part of the NatWest Cricket Force fund-raising effort. Proceeds will go towards ground improvements, including the building of a new scorebox. A percentage will also be given to the Shaw gas blast fund.
The match will be held at the Paddock on the evening of Wednesday, August 22.
Royton secured the NatWest event despite competition from over a thousand clubs in England and Wales.
Preparing to skipper his Legends XI, Vaughan – captain of England’s Ashes-winning team of 2005 and now a popular member of the Test Match Special team on BBC Radio – said: “I am sure that the game will start nice and friendly but no-one will want to lose.
“We are playing for our pride and won’t be going easy on anyone so they will have a challenge on their hands!
ROYTON CC are looking for a sponsor for the match. Contact Bernard Wade on 07905 273655.
