‘Drop-zone’ clubs may get reprieve

CRICKET:
CLUBS who finish in the bottom half of this year’s Lake Garage CLL may not end up in a lower division after all.
For the first time in the league’s history, a promotion and relegation system is in place.
The top eight qualify for next season’s Premier Division, with the rest playing in the Championship.
But, with so many fixtures wiped out because of rain and the possibility of more to follow, that could change.
I understand there have been submissions to the league, including one from the captain of a local club, that it is unfair to implement the two-tier plan given this season’s wash-outs.
As things stand, Werneth (12th), Crompton (13th) and Oldham (15th) are destined for the Championship, while Royton (joint eighth) are on the cut-off point.
League chairman Alan Wright said the situation is on the agenda for Monday’s meeting of the CLL Management Committee.
