ANGLING: FAILSWORTH-based Ken Power and grandson James Cantello (both TRI-CAST Highfield) have been making the trip to Crewe venue Old Hough Farm.
In the latest contest Ken was unlucky but James was once again in the money. He took second place with his pellet on Prospect Lake, netting an excellent 47lb 9oz made up of 27 f1s, several skimmers and ide.
Anthony King (Protac) won, with skimmers totalling 60lb 2oz.
DANNY Heywood claimed victory in the Medlock Bridge AC open match on the Park Lake after accounting for 12lb 7oz of small tench, skimmers, chub and roach which fell to maggot from 13 metres.
Pete Cuniffe took roach adding up to 11lb 3oz and was joint-second alongside Bob Harrison, whose net contained chub and skimmers.
The second contest, on Strinesdale Reservoir, saw Hebden Bridge-based Darren Taylor (Saints) take top spot courtesy of a 30lb catch.
Using maggot at 11 and 13 metres, he laid claim to 15 chub and plenty of roach.
Pete Cuniffe followed, hemp and caster tempting 13lb 12oz of roach, although he rued the loss of numerous fish.
ORGANISER Ian Walvin took the Diggle AC match — his pellet and meat tempted 23lb 14oz of small carp and skimmers.
Chris Butterworth came second after catching carp and skimmers weighing 17lb 4oz.
CHADDERTON Mill AC contests are always crackers, with massive weights every time.
The latest was no exception as winner Paul Hill claimed 81lb 8oz of ide and carp taken on maggot up in the water and paste used down the side.
Warren Kirby was not too far behind — his 78lb haul included 25lb of ide.
CRANBERRY AC ran their latest match on Blundells Oak Lake, where Gideon Orr took top spot with 24lb 8oz of tench and small carp which fell to meat and corn.
Second-placed Jim Wild’s skimmers and roach totalled 18lb 4oz.
I MANAGED a win in the latest Scunthorpe AC open match on the Stainforth and Keadby Canal with 16lb 1oz of skimmers in a hard match.
I am looking forward to the Stainforth and Keadby Canal Championships tomorrow.
TIGHT Lines rod Aiden Bordiak is definitely one to look out for.
He is barely 20 and has just beaten top and full-time angler Kieran Rich off the next peg three times on the trot on Blundells Fishery.
Following a 165lb win and a third-place finish, which came thanks to a 132lb catch, he won the latest match with a 129lb net of carp on paste.
