BOWLS: TONGE suffered a Manchester Premier League setback when they were beaten 9-6 (194-185) at Sale XL.
Andy Cairns and Gary Ellis registered 21-20 verdicts, the latter fighting back from 11-1 down against Neil Jenkinson.
Other Tonge winners were Jimmy Derby (21-13) and Graham Hickey (21-15).
Tonge are at home to Warrington outfit Pierpoints next Wednesday (7.30pm).
HEATS continue in the Moorside Classic tonight (6.30pm) when the line-up includes well-known open handicap players James Grimston, Dave Jackson and Mike Leach, plus former champion Dave Hallam.
ENTRIES are invited for the £740 Delph Men’s Singles, sponsored by Harold Stock and Co and The Old Bell Inn, Delph.
Qualifying dates are Fridays August 31, September 7 and 14 (6.30pm) and Saturday, September 15 (1pm).

NIMBLE Nook’s Steve Mellor and Barry Seville were beaten 21-17 by Dave and Ben Phillips (Flixton) in the third round of the Thwaites men’s pairs at Norden.
Heats continue on Sunday (5.30pm) when Oldham is represented by Colin Lane and Thomas Dobson, and David and Jonathan Copeland.
