CRICKET: With 13 games gone and 13 to go, players and officials have fingers crossed that weather conditions improve for the long Saddleworth and District Cricket League run-in.
Leaders Uppermill, at home to Austerlands tomorrow, are playing strongly, but several sides are ready to take advantage of any slip-up.
Their nearest challengers are Hollinwood.
Next for Hollinwood is a trip to Shaw, who were greeted by a soggy outfield at Glodwick last weekend and, as a result, had no game.
It’s rare that you see Bamford Fieldhouse melt, but that is exactly what happened at Heyside, who turned up the heat to good effect in the Tanner Cup semi-final last Sunday.
No doubt words have been spoken at Hollin Lane, so Stayley must be on their guard tomorrow.
Greenfield and Saddleworth are also on the comeback trail.
Fifth-placed Saddleworth, beaten by lowly Droylsden six days ago, won’t have it all their own way at Tanner Cup finalists Glodwick — ground conditions permitting.
Defeat in their last two games has seen Greenfield slip to fourth, but they should be too good for Friarmere,
