HEYSIDE and Bamford Fieldhouse, who met in the last four of the Tanner Cup a little over a week ago, with the former emerging victorious after a terrific encounter, will lock horns again next month.

At stake is a place in the prestigious LCB Cup final and a day out at Old Trafford on September 16.

After beating Netherfield and Chorley in previous rounds, Heyside bagged another prized scalp in Ormskirk at Little Hey Street yesterday.

After losing the toss — skipper Nick Campbell has yet to call right this season — the hosts slumped to a seemingly hopeless position of 25 for four.

But Ryan Barnes (49), Campbell (34) and Scott Bloor (24) dug in and lifted their side to a respectable 181 all out.

Ormskirk, from the Liverpool competition, started their reply as if they had a bus to catch, racing to 58 for no wicket in a handful of overs.

Tony Heaton broke up the opening stand with a direct throw from the boundary, and a rush of wickets left the game in the melting pot.

Heyside continued to turn the screw. Ormskirk were all out for 155.

Meanwhile at Hollin Lane, Chris Schofield was Bamford’s main man in a six-wicket victory over Leyland.

The ex-Lancashire and England leg spinner claimed four for 15 in the Northern League side’s total of 135. Marlon Black weighed in with two for 19. He was just as effective with the bat, finishing unbeaten on 57. Professional Grant Hodnett earlier made 46 out of a match-winning total of 137 for four.

The Heyside and Bamford semi-final will be staged at Little Hey Street some time on or before August 26.
