Frantic finish in store for play-off

GOLF:
THE Oldham and District Golf League faces a frantic last week of the season to decide the top two play-off places in each division.
The wet weather struck, forcing three matches to be postponed and leaving some clubs with two matches in the final week.
In the ‘A’ Section East Division, Werneth go to Ashton tomorrow knowing that a 3-5 defeat or better will see them through as winners. Werneth lead by four points after a 6-2 win over Fairfield but a 6-2 Ashton win would see Ashton claim top spot on head-to- head results after teams finish level.
North Manchester whitewashed Oldham 8-0 to consolidate pole position in the West, but Denton’s shock 6-2 away win at Stamford keeps them interested and Dukinfield will need a hefty points haul at Oldham tomorrow to ensure they make the semi-finals as Denton are at home to bottom side Blackley.
The ‘B’ SectionEast is fascinating, with a point separating the top four and even the bottom two able to sneak into the play-offs if they could find an 8-0 home win in their last match.
Fairfield rocked leaders Werneth 8-0 and Ashton held Crompton and Royton to 5-3 at High Barn Street, leaving it wide open.
Oldham’s 4-4 draw at home to North Manchester was the only game to survive in the West Division.
