Orme scoops major

GOLF:
MARK Orme claimed major honours in the vice-captain's competition at Saddleworth.
Over two rounds, he shot 69 and 71 to take the prize on a card play-off from Paul Baddeley (69 and 71), with Richard Hughes in third (66 and 75).
BRIAN Connor is having an open day on Sunday, to celebrate 25 years as professional at Manchester Golf Club in Hopwood.
The anniversary coincides with the 100th anniversary of Hopwood’s current site — following a move there in 1912.
WOMEN'S GOLF: The Winterbottom Cup was played at Crompton and Royton and was won on count back by Maureen Delaney from Joyce Adams. The scores were 96-24-72 and 100-28-72 .
OLDHAM Golf Club have been handed the GolfMark award by the sport’s national governing body.
England Golf presented the accolade in recognition of the club’s junior and beginner facilities and programmes.
Oldham’s junior secretary Marjorie Bray said: “We have been working towards this award for the past couple of years and the junior committee have worked hard in producing the evidence required.”
