ROYTON Road Runners roared to victory in the men’s team race in the Moonraker 10k race in Middleton.
The absence of club champion Ian McBridge did not prevent an impressive collective display, which saw Stuart Carroll (35:58) and Martin Schofield (36:21) come third and fifth respectively.
Russell Ingham also finished 12th in 39:40 as Royton took top spot, six points clear of nearest challengers Salford Harriers.
Carroll’s result confirmed that he will be the club’s V40 champion this year and all but guaranteed second place in the club championship.
Second-place Debbie Shaw (45:25), Gill Lowe, third in 47:51 and Val Kilburn — second FV40 in 48:12 — won the women’s prize.
John Sweeney (48:33) set a club record by completing his 29th consecutive club championship race, dating back to the 2010 season.
