KNOCKED off their perch by Bamford Fieldhouse on Saturday, Uppermill returned to the top of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League after a 100-run win at home to Droylsden yesterday.
In a match cut to 28 overs per side because of rain, Alex Griffiths’ troops made 189 for five. Nathan Boote struck 35.
Droylsden, victorious against Stayley 24 hours earlier, could only manage 89 in reply.
Uppermill’s lead over Bamford is 16 points.
The Hollin Lane men had a wasted journey to Friarmere, where play wasn’t possible — a situation also suffered at Glodwick (v Moorside) and Shaw (v Greenfield).
Despite their enforced day off, Greenfield moved up to third place as Hollinwood could only get a point against Saddleworth.
Steve Holmes and Peter Skuse, with figures of five for 28 and four for 36 respectively, reduced the hosts to 65 all out. Saddleworth achieved victory for the loss of two wickets.
It was a weekend to forget for Stayley’s batsmen who, after crashing to 82 all out on Saturday, managed 81 yesterday against Heyside in a game of 25 over each.
Seamer Carl Newton took seven for 40, before watching his teammates score the runs needed for the loss of only three wickets.
Austerlands secured league win number three of the season by a four-wicket margin after dismissing hosts Micklehurst for 106.
