Local sides seen off by centurions Price and Smith
PROFESSIONALS took the Michael out of two of our local teams in the Lake Garage CLL on Saturday.
Mike Price was right for Norden in their defeat of Werneth at the Coppice, while a second Michael - Mike Smith - smashed an unbeaten 182 in Middleton's convincing victory over Royton at Towncroft.
Norden took first guard at Werneth and made 237 for five with Price unbeaten on 100. Werneth skipper Matt Taylor took three for 88.
After rain, Werneth were set a revised target of 215 off 43 but all they could manage was 107 for four, despite a knock of 62 from professional Hasnain Abbas.
Royton's recent revival was stopped in its tracks by Middleton pro Smith, whose sensational knock enabled his side to reach the lofty heights of 291 for three.
Tom Hardman provided valuable support with 63.
After a downpour, Royton needed 192 from 27 overs. But they couldn’t get anywhere near, finishing on 127 for one.
Oldham were brushed aside by Rochdale at the Pollards.
Paid man Hassan Sheheryar hit 32 as the hosts were bowled out for 148, Greg Butterworth taking five for 50. Rochdale raced to their target for the loss of a single wicket,.
On a bad day for our for local sides, Crompton were beaten at Littleborough, despite improved batting.
They made 181 for nine, and Boro, set a fresh target of 173 off 47 overs, reached that for the loss of three wickets
