Diggle star’s key role as GB fifth in relay
DIGGLE'S Jessica Lloyd shone as Great Britain's 4x100 metres freestyle relay swimmers reached the final and finished fifth.

Team GB exceeded expectations in an extremely competitive field and drew inspiration from the crowd to record a time of 3:37.02.

Lloyd, Fran Halsall, Amy Smith and Caitlin McClatchey were more than a second faster than their qualification time in the heats, earlier in the day, and only just shy of the British record.

Lloyd said after the race: "We walked out there and there was this massive scream.

“I sat out there and I could barely breathe. The experience was just amazing. Hopefully, we can take this experience into the Rio Olympics in 2016.”

Lloyd's competitive involvement in the tournament has now come to an end, but she will remain at the Olympics Village to support her colleagues until the closing ceremony.

Mum Ann and dad Garry were joined by several other family members, who were stunned when the Queen made an appearance at the event to show her support.

Ann said: "We are over the moon with the efforts of Jess and the rest of the team, and the fact Her Majesty was in attendance put the icing on the cake.”
