ADAM Rowbotham became the third member of his family to win the Werneth Club Championship.

Two-handicapper Adam (22) shot rounds of 67 and 69 for a level-par total of 136 and a one-shot winning margin over Mark Abbott.

Adam’s success stopped his brother Lee, the current captain of the Garden Suburb club, from completing a hat-trick of successes. Lee had won the competition in 2010 and 2011 with identical 136 totals.

The family now has 11 titles in total, with dad Paul having won the club’s top prize seven times, Lee three.

Former Athletic star Andy Barlow won the net prize with rounds of 64 and 67. He pipped 15-year-old five-handicapper Jack Fallows, who made an impressive debut in the competition with a 133 net total after rounds of 71 and 72.

Victorious Adam had warmed up for his major win with a fantastic seven-under-par round to score 45 points and win a midweek single Stableford by four shots from Steve Lynch and Michael Farrimond.

MICHAEL Harrington came out on top in the Saddleworth Club Championship.

He posted rounds of 72 and 79 for a 151 total, a shot clear of Martin Orme (74 + 78=152), with Mark Orme (78 + 76=154) back in third place.

In the Captain’s Prize at Saddleworth, another major competition, victory went to Marcus Wray on card play-off.

He registered 75-6-69 in round one, followed by 78-5-73 for 142.

STAMFORD had two reasons to celebrate in the Sandiway Junior Masters, held at Sandiway, Cheshire.

James Kempster (13) won his age group — he recorded the third-best gross score overall — and Archie Palmer (12) emerged victorious in his age category.
