CROMPTON are hoping Sunday’s derby victory over Oldham can prove the catalyst for a winning sequence as the Lake Garage CLL season enters its final phase.
A daunting 19 points behind eighth-placed Monton and Weaste, Crompton have a mountain to climb if they are to secure a place in next season’s Premier Division. But skipper Carl Taylor isn’t ready to throw in the towel.
“Saturday’s win was a good boost and the next few matches will determine whether we have any chance of getting up there,” he said.
“We take on Rochdale on Saturday and although that will be tough, they were bowled out by Monton and Weaste for 30 the other week so you never know what might happen. Then we have Monton, Clifton and Royton, all games I feel we can be competitive in.”
Taylor admits, however, that the odds are against his side.
Crompton’s problem this season has been batting: “I’ve been saying the same thing for the last few years,” said Taylor. “Our batting hasn’t been good enough and it has to improve.”
