NICK Haynes earned victory in the George Whiting memorial match for Eight Bells AC against Diggle AC on Tanners Dam.
His pole and pellet approach tempted two carp and a few skimmers to get the better of John Berry, who boasted 7lb 12oz of carp and roach. Eight Bells AC claimed the overall win with 20lb 8oz against Diggle’s 13lb.
THE Jamie Heaton benefit match, in memory of the toddler killed in the Shaw gas explosion, was held on Park Lake and won by Matt Corbally, who netted 12lb 1oz of tench and skimmers. Runner-up Paul Lord would have taken top spot had he not lost two skimmers. He finished with 10lb 15oz. So far £683 has been raised for Jamie’s family.
PETE Cuniffe was top dog in the Medlock Bridge AC Open on Park Lake. He took 21 roach, chub and skimmers to record a 20lb 2oz haul. Closest challenge Bob Harrison claimed two tench and some decent-sized skimmers which weighed 14lb 15oz.
BRAGGING rights in the Chadderton Mill AC match went to Phil Hulme, whose ide, caught on maggot, added up to 35lb. A switch to meat tempted carp to help him to a 62lb 6oz total. Tight Lines rod Aiden Bordiak was runner-up on 59lb 12oz
JIM Wild walked away with the honours in the Cranberry AC match on Marsh Pool at Partridge Fishery.
He caught 39lb 8oz, ahead of Simon Dickson (38lb).
STEVE Sharples saw off the competition to win the Lees and Hey AS contest on Hampton Springs meadow pool. His 50lb 3oz of mostly carp kept Steve Blackburn at arm’s length. Blackburn took 43lb 4oz.
MY Trabucco Halifax team gained promotion to Division One after finishing ninth in the Division Two Nationals on Stainforth and Keadby Canal. I managed to win my 12 peg section, as did Martin Taylor.
Some of us lost big fish, which would have sealed a top-five placing and possibly a top-three finish, but lost fish cannot be weighed. It was a cracking, brilliantly organised match.
Scunthorpe took top spot, with Barnsley in second and Browning Lifestyle in third.
