Waterhead aiming high

RUGBY:

WITH three teams to go up, Waterhead are perfectly placed to win promotion from Division Two of the National Conference League.

The Peach Road outfit, at home to Featherstone Lions tomorrow, are third, four points adrift of leaders East Leeds.

With a pile of points still up for grabs, joint coach Paul Geener reckons top spot is well within reach.

Waterhead have to play East Leeds twice, but they can’t afford to slip up against teams such as tomorrow’s opponents.

Waterhead suffered a body blow in their most recent outing against Elland.

Sean Garrett dislocated his knee in the first half and is out for the remainder of the season. Full-back Carl Sneyd is doubtful for this weekend with a shoulder injury.

Ryan Collins is in contention after returning from a spell living abroad.

Meanwhile, time is running out for Oldham St Anne’s and Saddleworth Rangers in their bid to beat the drop.

SAINTS travel to Rochdale Mayfield tonight for a Division One fixture (7.30pm).

With only two wins in the league from 17 attempts, Chris Deakin’s side are second from bottom, three points behind the team above them, Stanley Rangers, and eight points adrift of next one up, Stanningley.

RANGERS will need to be at their best at home to Siddal in the Premier Division tomorrow.

The Halifax visitors are locked in a three-way tie for the lead, though they have played more games than their rivals.
