NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL:
CHADDERTON got their Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One campaign off to a flying start with a 6-0 triumph at Atherton LR.
Strikers John Munson (27, 44) and Niall Sultan (36, 45) got two goals apiece, with midfield duo Matthew Russell (40) and Thomas Hughes (59) also getting in on the act.
The game was as good as over by half-time, with Paul Buckley’s side already five goals to the good.
One black spot for Chadderton was the early departure of centre-half John Rogers with a hamstring injury, which is expected to keep him out of action for a couple of months.
Buckley said: “It was close for the first 20 minutes, but we stepped it up and our first two goals seemed to kill them off.
“We played some very good football and it was a nice way to start the season.
“Losing John was disappointing. He could not even walk off the pitch, so we think it is a bad one.”
OLDHAM Boro, who now play their home games at Atherton Collieries, having left Whitebank, defeated Eccleshall 1–0.
Mike Barnes-Gott notched the only effort of the match with 17 minutes on the clock, a powerful drive which went in off the post.
MOSSLEY drew 0-0 at Ashton United in the Willow Wood Hospice Charity Cup, before winning 3-2 on penalties.
