Tanner Cup final goes to the wire
HEYSIDE recovered from the early loss of big-hitting professional Gerrie Snyman to pull off a last-ball win over Glodwick in a cracking Tanner Cup final last night.

Ryan Barnes, playing alongside dad Mark, was named man-of-the-match for an outstanding 57.

Adding 96 for the sixth wicket alongside the excellent Scott Bloor (44), they carried the fight to Glodwick with a mixture of positive running and excellent shot execution.

When the pair were eventually dismissed within five runs of each other, Stuart Moore (23) and Jimmy Cummins (13) took up the mantle to see their side home at Moorside’s Turf Pit Lane ground.

Resuming on 93 for four and needing 139 more runs for victory from 22 overs, Heyside knew they had plenty of work to do in the culmination of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s premier knock-out competition.

Glodwick, chasing a first Tanner Cup triumph, drew first blood with the wicket of Snyman for 23.

Barnes had looked ill at ease the previous evening but he was an altogether different player 24 hours later.

With eight runs an over needed, Glodwick were back in the ascendancy. Moore swatting Whitehead for six and Cummins hit pro Rehan Rafiq over the boundary, leaving them 17 runs short on 12 balls to go.

Heyside needed four as the final over began. It then came down to one from one — and Moore clipped the winning run. Cue celebrations...
