OLDHAM St Anne’s ‘A’ produced their best display of the season so far despite slipping to a 42-28 defeat at Chorley Panthers in the Domino Pizza North-West Men’s League Division Two.
The hosts sailed into a 22-point lead, before Saints hit back with a brace of tries for Ryan O’Donnell, interspersed with a touch down for Sean Stubbs. New-boy Martin Swain added the goals to O’Donnell’s efforts to trail by six points at the break.
Panthers hit back shortly after the interval with two unconverted tries, before Stubbs claimed his second. Again, the home side responded with two tries and goals to edge away.
Saints, still without a point, refused to throw in the towel and a Jordan Hanley try and Swain’s conversion wrapped up the scoring.
Rochdale Cobras beat Roose Pioneers 24-16 in Division One, and Waterhead were beaten 24-0 at title hopefuls Newton Storm in Division Two. And Fitton Hill Bulldogs remain fourth-bottom in Division Five after losing 42-10 at mid-table Crosfields.
