OLDHAM skipper Zafar Jatoi has paid tribute to club professional Hassan Sheheryar following his brilliant CLL match-winning century at Ashton.
Oldham were in dire straits on 36 for five after taking first guard at Rayner Lane, but Sheheryar rescued them with a dazzling knock of 112, which included 11 fours and five sixes.
That took Oldham to a highly-respectable 184 for eight, at which point it rained, prompting Jatoi’s declaration and a revised target for Ashton of 102 off 20 overs.
Oldham’s premier bowlers, Furrukh Bukhari and Naeem Ashraf, backed up the pro’s efforts with excellent spells which yielded five and four wickets respectively as Ashton were restricted to 100 for nine in a thrilling finish.
MIDDLETON will play host to Norden in the final of the John Willie Lees Wood Cup on Sunday (1.30pm).
The clash between cup holders Middleton and reigning CLL champions Norden promises to be a cracker with the two Michaels – professionals Smith and Price – holding the key to victory for both teams.
