RYAN Barnes described his Tanner Cup final knock as the “greatest moment” of his Heyside career.

The 26-year-old put on a match-defining 96 with sixth-wicket partner Scott Bloor when Glodwick had gained the upper hand.

Man-of-the-match Barnes fashioned a fine 57 and Bloor 44, before they made way for Stuart Moore and Jimmy Cummins to clinch victory off the last ball.

“Scott and I just tried to work the ball as best we could,” said Barnes, whose dad Mark contributed 14, coming in at number three.

“To help to get the win is probably the greatest moment of my Heyside career.”

Barnes’ skipper Nick Campbell, winning his third Tanner Cup, added: “I’m really chuffed for Ryan — it was probably the best I’ve seen him play, and also Scott.”

Vanquished, Glodwick captain Nigel Stock was pleased at how his side performed in their first Tanner Cup final.

He said: “I think we put on a good show in a very good game. It was disappointing to get so close, but it gives us something to build on for next year.”

WHILE Bamford Fieldhouse’s first team target a place at Old Trafford in the LCB Cup semi-final, on the same afternoon the club’s second string play host to Hollinwood in the Moore Cup final (1pm).
