Urgent appeal for new blood

BOWLS:
GREATER Manchester’s bowls teams face an uncertain future unless a solution can be found to a crisis in their parent association.
The Greater Manchester County Bowling Association (GMCBA) will soon be without a secretary, treasurer or president.
If replacements can’t be found at the annual meeting in November, it is difficult to see how the GMCBA can continue to function properly.
That could mean the end of the road for the county teams, which would be a huge blow to crown green bowling in the region.
The situation has come to a head following the resignation of secretary David Williams, who has been running the association virtually single-handed.
He said: “We have not even had a deputy president for the last two years, which means we won’t have a president when Bill Bezer finishes in November.
“When the county plays its matches, other associations have four or five officials there.
“We have been having two and sometimes one. And no official is there for away matches.
“Matches at both senior and junior level cost between £500 and £600 to fund, but the association’s finances are running low and most of the affiliation fees from member clubs are going into funding them.
“I have had enough. It needs people to step forward now and fill all these positions rather than one person doing everything.”
Anyone willing to stand for election should email David Williams at secretary@gmbowls.org.uk
