STEPHAN Grobler struck his first century in the Versasteel Saddleworth and District Cricket League to lift Moorside to third place in the table.
The South African scored an unbeaten 105 as the Turf Pit Lane outfit defeated visitors Saddleworth by five wickets.
Grobler and overseas amateur Francois Mostert earlier bagged four for 76 and five for 58 respectively in restricting their opponents to 166 for seven.
The loss saw Steven Howard’s Saddleworth team slip outside of the top five after wins for Greenfield and Heyside.
Greenfield, with Chris Gill scoring 49 out of a total of 172 for nine, beat Hollinwood by 67 runs at Lime Lane.
Heyside remain fifth after a hard-fought victory over Friarmere at West View.
The Tanner Cup winners did not have it all their own way, however, as they lost seven wickets in reply, five of which fell to K Ahmed for 22 runs. The match was all over by 3.20pm.
Uppermill and Bamford Fieldhouse both posted comfortable victories.
Leaders Uppermill bowled out Stayley for 160 in reply to 224 for nine at Leefields.
Chris Schofield made an unbeaten 53 for Bamford, who had the straightforward task of chasing down Shaw’s total of 90 at Holebottom Clough.
Glodwick recovered from their Tanner Cup final disappointment to sweep aside Austerlands by 103 runs.
It was Glodwick’s first league game at home since May 26 — the outfield at Warren Lane has suffered more than most with the wet summer — and it produced a fine 97 from Shahid Mahmood in score of 269 for seven.
Teenager Danny Clayton hit a fine 71 to haul Micklehurst to 135, but it was in vain as Droylsden, with Gareth Dent unbeaten on 62, got home with seven wickets to spare.
