Delph bid on a knife-edge

SYKES CUP CRICKET:

RAIN ruined an exciting finish to the Huddersfield Cricket League's Romida Sykes Cup final yesterday at Honley, with Delph chasing a massive 276-run target for victory over holders Shepley.

Having progressed to 213 for three, bad light and constant drizzle forced the teams off the field,.

Delph return this evening at 6.30pm, needing 63 runs from 9.2 overs with seven wickets remaining.

Faisal Butt is leading the historic run chase and will resume his inning on 91 not out. If they succeed it will be the highest run-chase ever made at the Honley ground.

At the other end is Zimbabwean Kevin Hook on 19 not out.

Delph’s Arron Lilley smashed 50 following the departure of Bruce Cruse.

Shepley made an opening stand of 229 between Tom Denton (105) and SP Singh, who made 134 not out.

Delph were soon on the backfoot in reply as Shepley skipper had Irfan Zahoor playing on to his wicket in only the third over with eight on the board.

Cruse found Denton on the boundary edge and departed for a stodgy 27 before Greg Wood clean bowled Lilley.
