CRICKET; SOUTH African Francois Mostert is enjoying a cracking first season in the Versasteel Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

Moorside’s overseas amateur is the leading wicket-taker in the competition with 58 victims. The teenager’s ability has helped to lift his club to third in the table.

Moorside signed the left-arm quick bowler on the advaice of skipper Lloyd Kingston’s father, Hubert.

It was on his recommendation that Mostert joined the Turf Pit Lane club.

Kingston explained: “I approached my dad to find an overseas amateur and he saw Francois.

“He liked him from the word go as he said there was something about him. “

In his last five matches, Mostert has swept through batting line-ups with hauls of seven for 24, four for 31, eight for 41 — his best of the season so far — seven for 96 and most recently five for 50 against Saddleworth.

He is also on the way to scoring 500 runs.

He hails from the Pretoria High School Old Boys Club, which has produced familiar names such as Heino Kuhn, who played for Werneth and Oldham before representing South Africa, Justin Kemp and Maurice Aronstam, who was Moorside’s professional in 2005.
