Buckley loses Roses battle at Moorside

BOWLS:
NIMBLE Nook star Andrew Buckley was denied by Huddersfield’s Ashley Daykin in the final of the Moorside Classic.
Daykin won the War Of The Roses final and top prize of £700 with a 21-16 verdict.
Earlier, Buckley had beaten Robert Hitchen 21-17, Nigel Hodkinson 21-16 and Graeme Wilson 21-18.
Daykin reached the final with a a 21-18 verdict against Buckley’s Nook team-mate Darren Griffiths, a 21-13 victory over Lee Heaton and 21-13 dismissal of Yorkshire county team-mate Liam Griffin in the semi-final.
Last-16 casualties included Springbank’s Steve Copeland, who was beaten 21-20 by Hodkinson, Paul Leah (Waterloo and Taunton), who lost 21-17 to Wilson, and Nook’s Matt Gillies, a 21-11 loser against Callum Wraight.

Heats will be held on Friday, August 31, September 7 and 14 (6.30pm) and Saturday, September 15 (1pm).

FINALS of the Failsworth Bowling League Merit will be held at Springbank BC on Sunday (start and strike-out noon, no practice).
SADDLEWORTH League delegates will meet at Lees and Hey tonight (8pm) when trophies should be returned, presentation tickets will be handed out and Tweed Cup entries (£3) accepted.
