RUGBY:
OLDHAM St Anne’s ‘A’ went down to a last-gasp 29-28 home loss at the hands of neighbours Rochdale Mayfield ‘A’ in North-West Men’s League Division Two.
A goal by man of the match John Marsland at the death clinched the victory for the away outfit.
Saints opened the scoring with a Kieran Percy try and a conversion by Ryan O’Donnell, before Mayfield eased to a 22-12 lead at half time.
By the hour mark, Saints had taken the lead with tries for Graeme Sykes, Chris Tomlin and Oliver Brian, O’ Donnell adding a couple of goals.
Six minutes from time, winger Anthony Bamford squeezed in at the corner with Marsland landing an excellent touchline conversion, before sealing the game with a 40-metre drop goal.
