ANGLING:
DARREN Webb won the second round of the Chadderton Mill AC Dave Slattery memorial series.
His superb 70lb net of ide was enough to take top spot on Chadderton Mill Lodge.
Drawn on peg eight, Webb fished a pollyball rig, starting at 11 metres, with caster on the hook. And feeding the same bait, he drew them in to the seven-metre mark.
Runner-up Ricky Salmon’s all-carp net weighed in at 62lb
THE Rochdale Canal continues to fish well, with the latest open on the Boat and Horses length throwing up some fine weights.
Winner Andy Dawson used hemp at 11 and 12 metres to account for 10lb of roach.
Brian Meadows followed with roach adding up to 7lb 4oz.
I MANAGED a couple of quick sessions on the Chadderton length of the Rochdale Canal.
The first, a pellet-only affair, mustered four tench and about 20 skimmers. All I did was cup a small pot of micros and 3mm pellets at nine metres and fished a 6mm pellet over it — I caught within five minutes of starting.
The biggest fish was a tench around the three pounds mark, but the skimmers were a decent size, ranging from hand-sized to 12oz.
My second outing saw me use some leftover liquidised bread and punch.
In a two-hour session I was cupping a big pot full of ‘licky’ at nine-to-11 metres.
A big punch always goes on for the first 10 minutes as this is when you can catch a bream or big roach and, sure enough, I netted a 1lb 8oz skimmer.
After five minutes of little knocks on the big punch I switched to a smaller version and caught small skimmers and roach for about 5lb.
Not bad for just two hours of fishing and, believe it or not, the session cost me less than £1 in bait!

Ogden Reservoir – Day tickets on the bank and at Tight Lines, Shaw. Has fished well all year and there’s no sign of that stopping with plenty of fish feeding.
Huddersfield Narrow Canal – Day tickets on the bank. Plenty of bits at Mossley and Stalybridge as well as the odd tench and bream. Better fish at Diggle with pellet the favoured bait.
Rochdale Canal – Roach, skimmers and tench all feeding and making up match weights to double figures. Bread punch and caster are always good baits on this cut but hemp is coming into it’s own for big roach to 12oz.
Bardsley Canal – Day tickets on the bank.
Chadderton Mill Lodge – Continues to impress with massive weights of ide and carp.
Alexandra Park Lake – Day tickets on the bank. Great fishing on this water with skimmers and roach making up most nets. Maggot, caster and pellet all working well.
