CRICKET:
SECOND take on third tomorrow in Versasteel Saddleworth and District Cricket League Division One, as title hopefuls Bamford Fieldhouse entertain Moorside.
Paddy McKeown’s side sit just three points behind leaders Uppermill but go into this clash knowing their opponents pose a huge threat to their hopes of reaching the summit.
To add more pressure, Uppermill have a home clash with basement boys Micklehurst, with the smart money on a comfortable afternoon for the hosts.
Second-from-bottom Austerlands will have to be at their best when Greenfield visit Nursery Fields, while fourth-placed Heyside welcome inconsistent Glodwick to Little Hey Street.
Elsewhere, Hollinwood go to Droylsden, Friarmere take on Saddleworth and Shaw travel to Stayley.
The league action comes ahead of Bank Holiday Monday’s Per-Fit Windows Twenty20 Cup, contested by Friarmere, Hollinwood, Heyside and hosts Moorside.
SHAW are hosting a celebration match for all-rounder Steve Whitehead on Sunday (2pm).
Whitehead is retiring at the end of the season after 34 years with the club, and players past and present will be taking part. Admission is free and there will be a barbecue.
