SAME OLD STORY: groundstaff and players did their best to get the game on, but Royton’s CLL fixture against Walsden at th Paddock on Saturday succumbed to the weather.
IT was another wet Saturday in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
Only two matches started in Division One and it was the same story in Division Two.
Alex Peters, the Greenfield skipper, claimed five for 45 in helping to dismiss hosts Austerlands for 118, but the weather ruined the Ladhill Lane side’s hopes of victory as no further play was possible in the first XI fixture.
Hollinwood had reached 30 without loss at home to Droylsden when the clouds opened.
ONLY two games started in the Lake Garage CLL on Saturday – and neither was completed.
Royton’s home game against leaders Walsden was washed out after the hosts had taken first guard and made eight without loss.
There was much more play at Monton and Weaste, who made 191 for nine (Chapman 51, Murray 45 and Green 44, Micklewhite four for 39 and Deakin four for 46).
But after Littleborough reached 19 for one, heavy rain ruled out further play. Not a single ball was bowled in the other six Saturday fixtures.
DELPH’S game at Kirkburton in the Drakes Huddersfield Premiership on Saturday was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
There was also no result in the match between Woodhouses and Prestwich in Lees Brewery Lancashire County League Division One.
Mike Cassidy’s side made 209 for seven and Prestwich reached 24 for two when the rain intervened.
