THE winner of the Versasteel Saddleworth and District Cricket League title could be decided as late as September 23.
That is when leaders Uppermill play second-placed Bamford Fieldhouse.
The 2012 season was originally due to end on September 9 but rain forced the league to move the games from the weekend of April 28 and 29 to September 15 and 16.
Uppermill were set to play Bamford on April 29, then September 16. Bamford’s participation in the LCB Cup final at Old Trafford on September 16 means the fixture has been moved again, and now has a noon start.
WHEN is a hit, not a hit was the question facing umpires Peter Lilley and Tony Beard in the bowl-out that decided the first semi-final in the Per-Fit Windows Twenty20 Cup competition at Moorside’s Turf Pit Lane ground.
Danny Anchor, from the host club, clipped the stumps, but the bails stayed on.
Moorside celebrated what they thought was a successful ‘hit’ — but opponents Hollinwood queried it and the umpires decided to restart the bowl-out from scratch, claiming a ‘hit’ required one or both bails to be dislodged.
Hollinwood - 28 for two when rain stopped play — eventually won 2-0.
A new date for the other last-four tie between Heyside and Friarmere, which did not get under way because of the wet conditions, is to be fixed tonight.
PLAYERS past and present from Shaw turned out in force to honour long-serving all rounder Steve Whitehead on his retirement.
Just the wrong side of 50, Steve won all five Moore Cup finals he played in for the Holebottom Clough outfit.
He was in a Shaw legends side, which featured club president Mark Stafford, Paul Harrison, Bill Read, Mark Good, Alan Campbell, Pete Rowlands and Matt Williams, against a Shaw select team.
Williams took a wicket in the first over and also ran a two!
