ROYTON host Heywood in the stand-out game in the Lake Garage CLL on Sunday.
Walking a tightrope in their bid to finish in the top eight and book a place in next year’s inaugural Premier Division, Royton could hardly face a stiffer task.
Heywood arrive at the Paddock in strong form, determined to push league leaders Walsden all the way in their pursuit of the title.
Eighth-placed Royton can afford few slips if they are to remain in the top half of the table, and skipper Alan Durose will be acutely aware that Middleton — the team directly below Royton — have a kinder run-in.
Crompton still have a mathematical chance of finishing in the top eight, but will need to win every game to do so — and then hope results elsewhere go their way.
Oldham and Werneth will be glad to see the back of this season and can already start making plans for next summer’s eight-team Championship.
They go to Clifton on Sunday, while Werneth entertain Radcliffe.
