NOWHERE TO GO: Jordan Golloway of Oldham St Anne’s is stopped in his tracks by a stubborn Millom defence.
RUGBY:
AFTER losing 16-12 to leaders East Leeds in midweek — they were 12-0 ahead at the break — Waterhead hit back with a 34-30 win at Normanton Knights.
It was an important two points for the Peach Road outfit in their pursuit of promotion from Division Two of the National Conference League.
Cruising to victory at 34-20, Waterhead had to repel a late rally from their mid-table opponents.
A MISSED conversion in the dying minutes denied Oldham St Anne’s a vital league point following a 28-26 loss at home to Millom.
In an entertaining Division One game at Higginshaw Lane, Saints went ahead in the seventh minute.
Saints man-of-the-match Jordan Galloway converted, but Millom replied with tries from Garry Carter, Ross Brookes and Lee Edmondson.
Ricky Donaghue kicked two conversions as the visitors opened up a 16-6 lead.
Saints are battling to avoid the drop, and when Jewitt went in for his second try, which Galloway converted, they sensed a third win was possible.
Millom responded with a touchdown but Saints fought back to 20-18.
Saints went close on a couple of occasions after the break, but Millom took their chances.
Chris Deakin’s side continued to apply pressure and in the 75th minute Dominic Igoe narrowed the gap to two points.
Galloway had the chance of claiming a draw, but the goal attempt drifted wide of the post, denying the home side a deserved point for their efforts.
SADDLEWORTH Rangers are in Premier Division action tonight, with a trip to title-chasing Wigan St Pats (7.30pm).
