Heywood on a high

GOLF:
JAMIE Heywood came from off the pace to land the President’s Prize at Saddleworth.
After opening up with a 74, net 69, he followed up with a net 65 after being cut to a handicap mark of four.
Heywood’s 36-hole total of 134 was two shots better than Gary Simpson, who had rounds of 71-5-66 and 75-5-70.
Third place went to David Pullen (72-4-68 and 73-4-69).
The winner of the first-round prize was Stuart Chamberlain (81-14 -67), while second-round honours went to Mark Orme
DENISE Hurst won the lady captain’s final at Blackley — but it was a close-run thing.
She carded a round of 92-17-75 to edge out runner-up Sue Oldham (82-07-75) on a card play-off, Jean Meehan (97-22-75) in third place after another card play-off.
