Hollinwood ready to roar

RUGBY:
HOLLINWOOD are 48 hours away from their first match back in the Pennine League.
The club’s season gets underway on Saturday with a Division Five match at home to Wakefield side Crofton Cougars (2.30pm).
Hollinwood, returned to the long-standing “Roses” contest after just one try in the North-West Counties League.
The reasoning behind the move was to avoid being in a competition which could feature only a dozen or so teams of contrasting abilities.
And while many of the clubs jumped ship to the new North-West Men’s Summer League, Hollinwood stuck with the traditional winter game.
Hollinwood stalwart Fred Halliwell said: “We all enjoyed it in the North-West Counties League, don’t get me wrong. But when teams were moving to the summer game left, right and centre, we had to do something.
“The nearest competition to us is the Pennine League and that’s where we’re at.
Lee Bayliss and John Byram will share coaching duties.
Former Oldham RL player Andy Gorey is expected to feature at full-back or in the half-backs again.
