Miracle stands between Tonge and title
Date published: 07 September 2012
BOWLS:
TONGE will retain their Manchester Premier League title — barring monumental collapse!
They all but clinched the championship for a third successive season following a 13-0 (210-124) victory over the Nursery Inn, Stockport. Only a bizarre set of circumstances in the final fixtures can prevent another Tonge triumph.
The team goes to Tottington, while second-placed St Joseph’s travel to the Nursery, who offer much stronger opposition on their home green.
HEATS continue in the Delph men’s open tonight (6.30pm) when the contestants are A Walker and D Walker (Waterloo and Taunton), A Bidwell and D Shaw (Springbank), B Stapleton, P Fielding, M Clough and A Eames (Rochdale), K O’Prey, A Wadsworth, G Tandy and B Tinker (Yorkshire), D Farrell (Friezland), PG Brooks (Milnrow), G Woolley (Moorside) and M Gillies (Nimble Nook).
FINALS of the Chadderton League pairs will be held at Nimble Nook on Monday (6.45pm). Involved are G Moxson & I Schora; B Seville & S Mellor; P Heap & M Hodson; D Bagnall & B Salkeld; C Roberts & A Critchlow; C Haynes & C Price; G Coverdale & J Ashton; G Woolley & G Woolley.
