FOOTBALL:
SPRINGHEAD earned an impressive 2-1 home victory over previously unbeaten Prestwich Heys in Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.
The visitors got out of the blocks quicker and took the lead after a quarter-of-an-hour. It was a wake-up call for Springhead, who restored parity 10 minutes before the interval. The home outfit went close twice in quick succession after the restart, Mark Hopwood and Paul Stevenson both missing good chances. Prestwich enjoyed a decent spell of possession but, with seven minutes remaining, Hopwood capitalised on hesitant defending and lobbed home the winner.
Royton Town edged a nine-goal thriller 5-4 at the expense of Walshaw Sports. Substitute Bobby Fulham struck twice and Carl Caffrey, Chris McKay and Michael Moss also scored for Royton, who trailed four times before turning the game on its head.
Avro were beaten 4-3 at home by East Manchester.
