Waterloo’s pair of aces turn up trumps

BOWLS: ALAN Critchlow and Charlie Roberts (Waterloo and Taunton) won the Chadderton League pairs competition with a 15-5 defeat of Paul Heap and Martin Hodson (Springbank) in the final.
TONGE completed the formality of retaining the Manchester Premier League title with a 12-4 (188-147) victory at Tottington. They only needed a couple of winners to be mathematically safe, but they cruised over the winning line thanks to the efforts of Jimmy Derby (21-6), Gary Ellis (21-10), Matt Gillies (21-20), Nicky Brooks (21-11), Graham Hickey (21-10) and Steve Squire (21-6).
STEVE Copeland won the Chadderton League merit with a 21-10 final verdict against his Springbank team-mate Wilf McDermott.
ALAN Hodson (Springbank), Garry Coverdale (North Chadderton) and Gareth Gwilliam (Waterloo and Taunton) are among the finalists in the Tonge Classic on Sunday (4pm).
FINALS of the Solar Choice men’s singles at Norden BC on Sunday (5pm) provides local interest thanks to John Ashton, Steve Mellor and Barry Seville.
