Second spot is in sight

Rugby: WATERHEAD, closing in on their target of promotion from Division Two of the National Conference League, should be too good for visitors Heworth tomorrow (2.30pm).
Though joint coaches Paul Geener and Jon Perks are bound to tell their players to stay focused, victory appears a certainty against the basement boys.
Still without a win, Heworth have shipped 840 points - an average of 44 a game. Waterhead are third in the table, on the coat tails of Shaw Cross Sharks with a match in hand.
Time is running out for SADDLEWORTH RANGERS as they look to escape relegation from the Premier Division.
A great effort in defeat against Wigan St Patrick’s — Rangers were leading 24-6 until the sin-binning of prop Paul Raftery — was followed by a crushing loss at home to Thatto Heath Crusaders.
Tomorrow (2.30pm), Emerson Jackman’s side hit the road to East Hull, who are also struggling at the wrong end of the table.
Rangers really need to win — a draw would extend their season for another week — otherwise their time in the top flight is as good as up.
As for OLDHAM ST ANNE’S, Chris Deakin’s men have already reached the point of no return in Division One. Doomed for the drop despite a string of plucky displays, they entertain mid-table Eccles tomorrow (2.30pm).
