CRICKET: MOORSIDE, Heyside and Hollinwood can look ahead to playing in the 2013 LCB Cup competition after cementing places in the top five of the Versasteel Saddleworth and District Cricket League, writes KEVIN RICHARDSON.
While Bamford Fieldhouse and Uppermill, who meet next week in a title decider, had already qualified, question marks remained over the other three slots.
But it was a case of as you were after Saturday's programme when rain ended play early in the final league encounters for the dozen clubs in action yesterday.
Moorside finished third in the table despite suffering a washout at Shaw; next-best Heyside managed to pick up three batting points thanks to the efforts of professional Gerrie Snyman (68) and John Selby (41) against Saddleworth and Hollinwood held on to claim fifth.
The latter were dismissed for 121 at Glodwick, who were unable to bat because of rain.
Greenfield, one place behind Hollinwood in sixth, can reflect on a decent campaign, which ended in a drawn game at Micklehurst.
Greenfield piled up a record-breaking score on Saturday and were going along nicely again on 37 for no wicket when the heavens opened.
There was no play in the game between Friarmere and Austerlands at West View.
