GO CRAIG, GO: Waterhead’s Craig Highton sprints for the line against Heworth.
RUGBY: WATERHEAD maintained their push for promotion from Division Two of the National Conference League with a 36-8 win over basement side Heworth.
The result lifted the Peach Road boys up to second place and puts them in a positive frame of mind for Saturday’s trip to leaders East Leeds.
Waterhead made a good start, forging a 10-0 lead. The visitors from York responded on the stroke of half-time, but Waterhead were soon back on top, thanks to a four-try burst.
A DEVASTATING early spell put paid to Saddleworth Rangers’ hopes of victory at East Hull and almost certainly their chances of remaining in the top flight.
The hosts raced out of the blocks and were 34 points to the good inside 30 minutes.
Rangers pulled 10 points back by the break but lost 50-22. Visiting coach Emerson Jackman played for all but seven minutes.
Tries from Scott Partis, Danny McDonald, Chris Lyth, Stuart Coates and Carl Puckering — all converted by the latter who added a penalty — gave East Leeds an unassailable lead.
