Red-hot Heywood on a high
Date published: 21 September 2012
JAMIE Heywood is the man to beat at SADDLEWORTH. In a superb September, he has pocketed the President’s Prize and President’s Invitation.
Teaming up with Sam Clayton in the latter competition, they emerged victorious after registering 45 points.
Heywood had a good August, too, finishing runner-up in the club’s am-am with partner John Howarth.
Saddleworth president Trevor Higham also had a round to remember on his invitation day, bagging a hole in one at the 10th — the sixth of his golfing career.
LAST became first for Werneth golfer Tony Doidge. He squeezed into the club’s Fairway Cup final, finishing 21st in the second qualifier, but grabbed the last of the 18 places available because three players above him had already qualified.
He took full advantage by winning the major board competition with 74-10-64 to win by one shot from Terry Ogden.
NORTH Manchester retained the Oldham and District Golf League ‘A’ Division title when they defeated Ashton 7-1 in the play-off final at Werneth. Both teams had topped their respective divisions and won through to the final via semi-final wins over Werneth and Dukinfield.
