Oldham’s show of character
Date published: 21 September 2012
Netball: OLDHAM began the defence of their Premier League title with a tough 62-58 win against Oaksway of Hartlepool.
The North-East outfit fielded an experienced starting line-up and took the game by the scruff of the neck, quickly moving into a five-goal lead. But the hosts recovered to end the opening quarter all square at 17-17, and the half a point up.
The third quarter saw Oldham make two changes, and newcomers Georgie Webster and Beth Cobden had an immediate impact. Forcing errors on the opposition, the home side built up a three-goal lead.
Oaksway drew level but Oldham dug deep, held their composure in the last few minutes and took the game by four goals.
