Avro earn last-gasp derby win
Date published: 21 September 2012
FOOTBALL: AVRO snatched the winner four minutes into injury time to beat neighbours Springhead 4-3 in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.
The visitors broke the deadlock after 25 minutes through Paul Stevenson’s neat finish, only for Lee O’Brien to restore parity a quarter-of-an-hour later.
Michael Barnes-Gott put Avro in front just before the half, and Springhead levelled after the interval. Two minutes later O’Brien pounced for his second of the game for Avro.
Springhead went in front when Bennett finished well in a rapid counter-attack.
But Avro skipper James Hampson struck the winner when he rose to nod home a corner with virtually the last action of the match.
ROYTON Town enjoyed a 3-0 triumph at Breightmet United in the Lancashire Amateur Shield first round.
