Underdogs Rifle spring a surprise

FOOTBALL: RIFLE Range ‘C’ pulled off one of the upsets of the Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League President’s Trophy first round.
Division Three outfit Rifle secured a 3-1 home triumph at the expense of The Dog, who play in Martin Buckley Division Two.
Sean White, Jordan Jump and Callum Standring were on the mark for the hosts, with T Bristol replying for their shell-shocked opponents.
David Giblin Division One side Oldham GPO enjoyed a surprise 3-1 victory over Jack Abbott Premier Division team Fitton Hill Rangers.
And Division One again came out on top against top-flight opponents when Willow Tavern edged out Crompton House Old Boys 3-2.
Away side Bengal Allstars, of Division Two, took top-flight Famous King George all the way to penalties after a 2-2 draw, only for the home outfit to sneak through 5-4 on penalties.
Holders Rifle Range ‘A’ booked their place in the next stage with a comprehensive 7-0 defeat of Coppice United ‘B’, with Nathan Eastmond bagging a hat-trick and Ryan Fagan and Dale Jackman notching two goals apiece.
There were victories for Oddies Athletic, Limeside King George, Blue Club, Limeside Athletic, Legends and Kenyon, who are joined in the second round by Carrion Crow, Red Star, Failsworth Athletic and Oldham Tigers.
