Waterhead on promotion trail despite loss

RUGBY:
WATERHEAD remain firmly on course for promotion from Division Two of the National Conference League.
Leaders East Leeds ended the Peach Road outfit’s bid for title glory at Snake Lane.
The hosts’ 40-12 victory clinched top honours, while the best Waterhead can hope for now is the runner-up spot.
The damage was done in the first half as East Leeds opened up a 28-6 lead. They had scored 24 unanswered points before Peter Davies ran in from 80 metres and Mick Diveney kicked the goal.
Waterhead’s cause was hindered by the absence of experienced trio Alan Williamson, Carl Sneyd and Craig Highton because of work commitments.
The defeat saw Waterhead slip to third in the table and, with Dewsbury Celtic five points behind with two games in hand, promotion is still not a certainty.
