Higgy’s happy travels

RUGBY:
HIGGINSHAW earned a narrow 20-16 win at Leigh East in North-West Counties League Division One. The visitors produced a superb performance.
Showcasing a number of new signings, Higgy controlled long spells of the contest.
Some excellent defending snuffed out early attacks from Leigh East, and the away outfit took the lead with 14 minutes on the clock, and increased their lead 10 minutes later.
Resilient Leigh East replied with a well-worked touchdown after half-an-hour.
After the interval the away team threw everything at their robust opponents. Fullalove chipped over the defence and chased his own kick to cross, and he converted to put his side 16-6 ahead.
The hosts repeated this feat to stay in touch and the likes of Sutton, Brindley, Barry and Turner had to be at their best to keep it tight.
From a penalty, Higgy surged up the field and Perry demonstrated sheer determination to force his way over the line past three would-be challengers with 10 minutes remaining.
Leigh East crossed with five minutes left, but it was Higgy’s day.
After a barn-storming didplay, Perry was named man-of-the-match.
